Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act gives you the right to obtain information held by public authorities unless there are good reasons to keep it confidential.
What does the FOI Act include?
The main features of the FOI Act are:
- a general right of access to information held by The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) subject to certain conditions and exemptions
- a duty on us to inform any person who requests information whether we hold the information, and to communicate that information to the applicant unless one or more exemptions apply.
What are our obligations?
As a public authority we are obliged under the Freedom of Information Act to provide details of our routinely available information. We publish this information in accordance with the Model Publication Scheme [54kb] as defined by the Information Commissioner's Office.
How do I make an FOI request?
If you cannot find the information you are looking for in About Us or elsewhere on the website, you can make an FOI request by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or writing to

You should provide your name, an address for correspondence (email or postal) and the information you want. Please be as concise as possible about the information you want as this will help to find the information.
How do I make an Environmental Information Regulation request?
The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 allows you to request access to environmental information held by public authorities such as the HSCIC. The regulations allow access in a similar way to the FOI Act although you can also request information verbally. You should provide the same type of details as for an FOI request and contact us using the same details (see above).
