Submitting Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS) data

We have developed some new step by step guidance to help users submit data to the Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS).

Performance month

For April to September 2023 the performance cut of data was captured up to two months after the activity period. From October 2023 onwards, performance data is captured the month following the activity period, this is to allow performance data to be reported in a more timely manner. The submission window has been extended from 14 working days to approximately 18 working days (where possible) after the end of the activity month to allow providers more time to submit.

The exception is restrictive interventions data, providers will still have up to two months following the activity period to submit data. Restrictive intervention data submitted in month one will not be published until after month two. The intention is performance restrictive intervention data will move to being captured in month one. Date to be confirmed. 

Provisional month

For April to September 2023, provisional data was submitted in the first month following the activity period and published as provisional data. From October 2023 activity there is no longer a provisional cut of data published.

Updates

These are submissions made after the cut-off for performance monthly publications. Providers can submit data for previous months during the financial year, however no data can be submitted post the end of year deadline for the financial year. Data is published after the end of the financial year and labelled as 'end of year final'. Data may also be used in quarterly or 12 month rolling measures during the year where applicable. Providers are able to submit multiple times during the submission window and run reports to check the quality of their data before resubmitting if required, there is no limit for how many times this can be done prior to the submission window closing. We encourage providers to submit early in the window, check data, and re-submit ahead of the window closure dates.

Dates for submissions for October 2023 to March 2024 data are shown below. 

MHSDS v6.0 will go live on 24 May 2024. April 2024 data can be submitted from this date.
