Summary

This report details the investment in General Practice in the UK from 2009-10 to 2013-14.

The report draws on information obtained from country level financial monitoring reports discussed and agreed by the Technical Steering Committee (TSC), which is chaired by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) and has representation from the UK Health Departments, NHS England, NHS Employers and the British Medical Association (BMA).

Highlights

For the period 2013-14:  The Total Spend on General Practice including the reimbursement of drugs dispensed in General Practices was:

  • 8,752.9m in England, compared to £8,459.3m in 2012-13 (an increase of 3.47 per cent);
  • £475.7m in Wales, compared to £469.1m in 2012-13 (an increase of 1.40 per cent);
  • £249.9m in Northern Ireland, compared to £236.9m in 2012-13 (an increase of 5.52 per cent);
  • £807.0m in Scotland, compared to £796.2m in 2012-13 (an increase of 1.35 per cent);
  • £10,285.5m in the UK, compared to £9,961.5m in 2012-13 (an increase of 3.25 per cent).
