Recorded dementia diagnoses, June 2017.
We collect and publish data about people with dementia at each GP practice, so that the NHS (GPs and commissioners) can make informed choices about how to plan their services around their patients needs.
This publication includes a dementia diagnosis rate indicator. As not everyone with dementia has a formal diagnosis, this statistic compares the number of people thought to have dementia with the number of people diagnosed with dementia, aged 65 and over.

Highlights
Recorded dementia prevalence at 30 June 2017 is 0.770 per cent (1 person in 130).
When considered alongside monthly data previously collected, this indicates a progressive increase in recorded prevalence from June 2016 (0.763) to June 2017 (0.770).
After adjustments to remove spurious, 'non-GP' practices, shared practices and practices which decided not to participate in this extraction, the extract cohort available for collection was 7,284 practices.
Of the extract cohort, data for 7,233 practices were collected, representing 99.3 per cent coverage of cohort practices.
75.0 per cent of patients on the practices' dementia registers had their ethnicity recorded as either 'Not stated' or 'No ethnicity code'.
