Overview of the audit

The National Pregnancy in Diabetes (NPID) Audit measures the quality of pre-gestational diabetes care against NICE guideline based criteria and the outcomes of pre-gestational diabetic pregnancy.

The audit will answer the following three key questions:

  • were women with diabetes adequately prepared for pregnancy?
  • were appropriate steps taken during pregnancy to minimise adverse outcomes to the mother?
  • did any adverse outcomes occur?

Data collection

The National Pregnancy in Diabetes Audit is a continuous collection so please keep collecting and entering your data into the Clinical Audit Platform (CAP).

The submission deadline for 2023 pregnancies is Friday 16 February. Please submit all 2023 mother and baby records by this date.

The seventh annual report was published in October 2023 and includes all pregnancies from January 2022 to December 2022 that were input into CAP before 17 February 2023.

For the 2023 report, the NPID audit has used data from the Neonatal Research Database (NNRD), managed by the Neonatal Data Analysis Unit (NDAU) at Imperial College London. This has enabled us to look at babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units, to see if their outcomes and length of stay differed from the general population.
